Home of the Utah Jazz. Checkout this aerial hyperlape (or timelapse) of Vivint Smart Home Arena in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. It took approximately 6 minutes of super slow flying to capture this. Aerial Promo Video - Travel & Tourism

Pop A Wheelie in Luperón, Dominican Republic!

Recently, I visited the tiny town of Luperón which is located on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic. The town itself is tucked away well inside the harbor which, for the sailors out there, is known as the best "hurricane hole" in the Caribbean. The people of Luperón are insanely friendly and helpful. I was fortunate enough to get to spend a few weeks in the company of my good friend Cliff who lives on his sailboat in the harbor. We explored the town, countryside, and area beeches. We even got in a sail up the coast to Punta Rucia for a couple nights!

The locals are what give this tiny ocean side town it's charm. The kids play baseball and when they're not playing baseball they ride bikes. Here's a short travel video of the local kids riding wheelies on the town dock and another video of where you can score some free yoga while in town!

Hope you enjoy...

Corporate Promotional Videos - Using Aerial Footage

Do Aerial Videos Help Engage Viewers?

We think so... and so do our clients. Aerial video used in combination with ground based video is a great way to add some eye candy to any promotional video. But it's not only about eye candy.

Aerial video is the perfect way, not only to give viewers a fresh new perspective and a tool helping tell a better story, but to help showcase geographical based assets such as manufacturing facilities, construction sites, commercial real estate, vacation rental properties, office locations, bike trails, golf courses... and the list goes on and on.

We showcase your company, your services, and your products in a unique way by combining Google Earth, aerial video, ground based video, and time lapse video (also known as hyper lapse video) into engaging and impactful corporate promo videos. Our clients use these videos at trade shows, in sales presentations, on their websites, social media, and so on.

Coptershotz can produce a similar promo video for your company too. Be sure to watch the videos and feel free to get in touch with us to discuss your next video project!  Contact us

Elevate Your Marketing Message!

Aerial Promo Videos for Vacation Rental Properties

Our client, Alta Chalets, needed an exciting and effective way to show where their vacation rentals were located in relation to the Alta and Snowbird ski areas. Together, we made a plan to get a single continuous aerial video with call-outs of their rental properties along the way. With everything planned out all we needed was a sunny day just after a big snowstorm to get that nice winter wonderland shot. If you're familiar with skiing in Utah then you know you don't have to wait for long. Utah is known for stunning 'bluebird' ski days following a storm and this day didn't disappoint. Check out the promo video.

In one continuous mile long aerial shot we were able to capture the base of Alta and Snowbird with Alta Chalets' vacation rental properties and other points-of-interest in between. It was important to get it all in a single continuous shot so viewers not familiar with the area wouldn't get disoriented. We sped up and slowed down the aerial video to give it a nice flow and timed it with an upbeat music track. We think it turned out very well, so did our client... what do you think?

Getting long range butter smooth aerial time lapse video is not as easy as it looks. At Coptershotz we are pioneering and perfecting this fairly new technique. Drones, in the right hands, are a very affordable and effective way for companies to elevate their marketing message (pun intended). We can produce a similar aerial promo video for your vacation rental properties and integrate ground based shots too. How to Safely Inspect a Roof... Use a Drone

Snow covered roofs are a safety hazard!

When buying a home in Utah and everywhere it's important to know what kind of shape the roof is in. Sometimes it's just not practical or safe to send someone up on roof. That's where a drone can save the day. Drones are a cost effective and safe way to get hi-res images and video of potential problem areas which if not discovered early on can result in more costly repairs down the road.

In this case scenario our client needed a better look of the clay tiles and flashing around the chimney. Of course, if you live in Utah and it's winter there's a good chance there will be snow and ice up there. Instead of sending someone up on the icy roof to get photos and risking injury or worse... we sent up the drone.

Here are a few pics showing the detail we can get with the drone. Note; the images provided to our client are actually much larger which enables them to zoom in for an even closer look.

Did you know you can also use a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera (FLIR) to inspect roofs for heat loss and penetrating water? Contact us for a demo...

Drones are the Latest Tool to Help Utah Firefighters

Too much smoke... send up the drone!

Fireman recently used the aid of a drone to help fight a house fire in Orem, Utah. From the ground, the thick smoke made it virtually impossible to assess the situation and determine the best way to safely attack the blaze. So what did they do? Firefighters launched the drone above the smoke and were able to get a clear view of the fire. That view helped give crews the upper hand to get the fire out fast, keeping the 29 firefighters who were battling the blaze safe.

"We fully expect in the next few years this will be a standard tool in the tool box for fires to manage incidences," said Ryan Peterson, a program manager at Utah Fire Rescue Academy. "We were able to get the drone in the air and allow the incident commander to have a full aerial view of the incident."

"They may recognize pending signs of building collapse or a rapid change of fire conditions, which they may not recognize immediately from their view [on the ground]," Peterson said.

Crews expect drones to be common place in the next two to three years and new training program is slated to start early next year. Training will include FAA remote pilot certification which is required for commercial drone operations. Here's actual video from the drone hovering above the Orem house fire as reported by Fox13.

Amazon Made it's First Delivery by Drone

It's a bird... it's a plane... it's my tacos!

If you've been paying attention you'll have heard about Amazon's delivery by drone program. Well, it's now official! Although still in beta testing, they delivered the first package to a real customer. I wonder what they ordered? Check out the video. You'll see the drone is tracked out onto a launchpad much like how NASA does it but on a much smaller scale. The first delivery took 13 minutes from time of order to drop off.

Boy have times changed. Only time will tell how practical drone delivery will actually be. Stay tuned. Read more about Amazon's drone delivery service.

Roof Inspections with a Drone

You don't need to climb up on that roof... use a drone!

We were recently hired to fly our mapping drone over the Grand Summit Hotel in Park City, Utah. The hotel is quite large and is ringed with heated cable (heat trace cable) to keep large chunks of ice from falling off and possibly injuring someone. The hotel needed to replace their roof ice melt system with a new and more energy efficient system. For reasons I won't get into, they needed to know how many feet of existing cable was up there.

Besides using a drone, the other two options were to put a person in a boom lift maneuvering along the edge of the hotel or actually have someone crawl out on the roof! Both of these methods are time consuming, more costly, and put peoples live's in danger. So the obvious choice was to use a drone.

In about an hour we were able to safely fly the drone over and around the hotel getting hi-res images which were then passed onto the engineers where they were able to easily get the measurements from the safety of their desks. We ran two missions. The first mission was an autonomous flight where we took many "top-down" hi-res photos and later stitched them together to get one very hi-res image (see image top-left) of the entire roof. Our second mission, we manually flew the drone around the entire edge of the hotel taking closeup photos of the roof line. As mentioned, we accomplished this safely in about an hour!

In this case scenario we saved our client time, money, and they never had to put anyone in harms way. Using drones, or UAVs, for roof inspections just works.

Aerial Video & Photography for Utah Real Estate

Drones and Mountain Real Estate!

Aerial video is a fresh and effective way to showcase mountain real estate property to perspective buyers. We shot this video in Big Cottonwood Canyon for our client who wanted to capture the beauty of the surrounding area in addition to showing a birds-eye view of the lot's property lines. We accomplished this by adding a semi-transparent overlay over the property to make it easy to visualize. Check it out...

Aerial Drone Footage in Little Cottonwood Canyon - Sandy, Utah

Aerial Drone Footage in Little Cottonwood Canyon - Sandy, Utah

Little Cottonwood Canyon

LCC has got to be my favorite canyon by far. A lot of it has to do with the fact that Alta and Snowbird ski areas sit at the top but that's just the start. Little Cottonwood Canyon is located in Sandy, Utah just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Salt Lake. Winter, spring, summer, or fall... it's always spectacular in the canyon with it's many looks. These aerial video clips are just a glimpse of the stunning scenery you'll find in LCC. Hope you enjoy.

The Pdog at Alta!

The Alta Peruvian Lodge sits slope-side at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Ullr himself keeps a room here. This classic rustic lodge is what Alta is all about. A pool, hot tub, good food, comfy beds, good vibes, and a killer bar called the Pdog... what else does a skier need? Here's an aerial video clip of the lodge with the almighty Mt. Superior in the background. There's also a quick shot of the famous High Boy run.

We are in the process of putting together a promo video for the lodge. As of this writing over 15" of pow pow has fallen so hopefully we can get that illusive money shot we're looking for. As they say, timing is everything...

Aerial Drone Video of Tanner Cabin at Alta, Utah

Aerial Drone Video of Tanner Cabin at Alta, Utah

A high altitude view from a drone...

The Tanner cabin is located in the breathtaking Albion Basin inside the Alta Ski Area and shadowed by the north face of the almighty Devil's Castle. Built in the 70's by Norm and Barbara Tanner this cabin is drenched in Alta tradition and nostalgia. Interesting fact: The cabin is constructed in a way that you never need to shovel snow to get to the door... and Alta's been known to get a little snow from time to time. ;)

If you would like Coptershotz to come out and shoot your cabin or mountain property give us a shout. As you can see, drone footage is spectacular and a unique way to showcase your cabin or property. Contact for more info and bookings. You can also find us on Instagram at @coptershotz.

See What Happens When You Use a Drone Like a Ronco Veg-o-Matic

See What Happens When You Use a Drone Like a Ronco Veg-o-Matic

It shoots aerial video, it slices, it dices, and so much more!

Drones... multitasking wonder machines! One minute you're 200 feet in the air spying on your neighbor and the next minute you're in the kitchen chopping broccoli.
Check out this slow-motion video of a DJI Phantom drone as it takes out some unsuspecting fruits, vegetables, a doughnut, eggs, and a hot dog or two. Bonus - in the end, for some reason they run the drone over with a car. (video courtesy of Speed Motion Films)

Drone Photography Services Coming to a Ski Resort Near You?

Drone Photography Services Coming to a Ski Resort Near You?

The drones are coming... the drones are coming... or are they?

Wouldn't it be a great way to commemorate your ski vacation with a drone "selfie" of you and your posse? Even better, epic aerial video of you as you mach down Alta's High Boy blasting through blower Utah pow? Yes please! Ski resorts already offer on-mountain photo and video services so it's a natural fit. 2016/2017 season perhaps? The concern is, can commercial drones be flown safely at ski resorts and will they be accepted by everyone? Obviously, you don't want to drop a drone out of the sky onto someone's head so designated drone flight areas with low traffic would likely need to be established in areas where they aren't a constant annoyance. So yeah, I think it can be done safely and people will get used to them and maybe eventually they will be embraced and loved. Ummm maybe. Yeah, don't worry... I'm not holding my breath, especially after the incident in this video.

What about drones being used for search and rescue missions? Drone's could be fitted with heat-sensing technology to find people or with LED spotlights to illuminate a large area. The good news is soon some drones will be equipped with ballistic parachutes to bring them softly to the ground.

OK, do you want to see drone footage of some homie "tomahawking" down the mountain like Ian McIntosh? Sorry, you'll have to settle with this video of skier Marcel Hirscher narrowly missing getting hit by the drone. Wow, that was close! That drone and camera were most likely worth over $10,000.

It was only 10 years ago or so that we were using bulky analog camcorders that didn't even shoot in HD. Now we can record stunning hi-resolution 4k (soon to be 8k) video from borderline autonomous tiny flying-camcorders. Isn't technology great!

Aerial Photos of Ginormous Pumping Project at Intermountain Power Plant near Delta, Utah

Aerial Photos of Ginormous Pumping Project at Intermountain Power Plant near Delta, Utah

Our client wanted some drone based aerial photos of their giant pumps in action at the Intermountain Power Plant just outside of Delta, Utah. They've been contracted to pump all the brine water from one containment pond to the other. Apparrently, there is a leak somewhere in the liner and they need to get the water out to repair it. To do this, they built a new containment pond adjacent to the leaky one. They then placed 3 giant pumps on a barge and ran the pipes over the berm and into the new pond. As the brine water was injected into the new pond it formed an interesting cloud-like effect that really brought the photo together. The guys running the pumps say it's going to take them a few weeks to drain it... now that's a lot of water!
